Cats ‘n’ Dogs features an open floor spot from 8pm to 10pm
which has recently become so busy that early attendance is essential to
confirm a place on stage. Headline acts (either made up of Core members
and volunteers or outside acts booked through Core Arts) then perform
to an appreciative audience.
The club is run collectively by Core Arts members, volunteers and other
mental health service users. Equipment is set up and supported by volunteers
and members, regardless of whether they are performing, which gives the
club a great community atmosphere.
Recently, excitement about the club has grown and an impressive selection
of headline acts has helped to double the size of audiences. As well as
Core members, growing numbers of outside visitors are attending
the events, inspiring members to increase the level of professionalism
in their performances. This has been very positive for the confidence
of all the mental health service users who take part in/or visit the club,
including patients who visit while still on the psychiatric wards at Homerton
Hospital. The performers and support crew of the Crazy Cats ‘n’
Dogs Club are increasingly convinced that their skills stand up in the
mainstream music industry.
