Printmaking

OUTLINE
Group session offering the opportunities to learn and develop different printmaking skills, through to exhibiting and sales.
Elements: technical understanding of the design preparation process. Technical understanding of the different print processes.
Skills taught: Design, Printmaking, exhibiting and sales.

AIMS & OBJECTIVES
Educational:
To learn how to design, prepare and develop an idea to work in the printmaking process as a multiple.
Technical: To understand the different nature of printmaking according to the method used. To utilise technology in printmaking, to understand the basic technical concepts of how print works, using the following techniques: Block Printing – Lino Cut, Woodcut, Copper Lithograph, Monoprint; Intaglio – Colorgraph, Drypoint, Etching, Aquatint, Engraving
Artistic
: To utilise modern technology to create prints and multiples and to expand upon current palette by understanding the various options available.
Social: A socialising time where students can help each other and expand creative ideas together.  Developing and working on creative themes. To help and support other members of the group in their ideas and creativity. To learn how to work and communicate within a team and share artistic knowledge.

SESSION OUTLINE
This workshop is an opportunity to learn how to create prints through a variety of techniques. Teaching will be a combination of demonstration and one to one teaching. The emphasis will be on positive encouragement and feedback, to encourage creative work. A variety of source materials will be used from books, and through visiting exhibitions.

First stage: teaching basic design for print projects.
Second stage: students will learn basic techniques of Block Printing & Intaglio
Third stage: learners will work on own projects using one or more of the above techniques.
Final stage: exhibiting and learning to price work for sale.

OUTCOMES
Members are able to produce prints from a variety of techniques.
Confidence in producing multiples.
Technical skills improved.
Creative thinking enhanced.
Confidence raised.

SOME PROGRESSION ROUTES
Volunteering to help other members create prints in Core Arts.
Volunteering to help printmaking classes in other projects/colleges.
Further accredited study at a recognised College leading to possible work opportunities.
Production of prints to sell, self-employment.
