AIMS & OBJECTIVES

how to play keyboard and direct their own time in practising between sessions.
Artistic: to develop their skills in order to play existing
music and create their own pieces.
Therapeutic: for people to gain confidence in playing
an instrument.
SESSION OUTLINE
Process: warm-ups/scales – demonstration of
new chord/technique – individual try-out – group playing – working on
a piece – rehearsing – discussion – final play-through – evaluation
Each session begins with a practical warm-up exercise on the keyboard
to get fingers working. There is then overview and explanation of
the main idea, e.g. a particular chord/sequence.
Each session involves playing a piece, and
is accessible for players of varying experience – some play melodies
with a single hand, others accompany with chords, beginners can play a
single, slower moving bass line, and most experienced players can co-ordinate
both hands. We work on pre-existing pieces, and then use an element of
this piece, for example scale, to create an improvised or original piece
to finish the session.
Members are encouraged to explore music through playing, listening and
asking questions. They are also given the opportunity to evaluate
their own learning and progress at regular intervals.
