The Big Draw"The only way around is through"* Core Arts opens its doors to the public for a trio of inspiring drawing events. Core Arts is a member led art studio based in Hackney, London for adults with severe and enduring mental ill health. Working amongst people who face the toughest barriers an often be a stimulating and enlightening experience. As part of the sixth annual Big Draw and the Campaign for Drawing, Core Arts invites you to join in three drawing sessions during October. Kader Keita, a Malian mudcloth artist who frequently works with
disadvantaged people will run a workshop on the 5th October from
2-4pm. Kader uses the traditional textile 'bogolan' or mudcloth,
which comprises a heavy, cotton cloth with rust-coloured geometric designs
printed using a dried leaf called n'galama and iron-rich river mud.
His achievements are remarkable considering he is severely physically
disabled. Having had polio as a child, Kader moves with the aid of crutches
and a motorised wheelchair. Drawing
as a way of recovering personality will be the theme of a drawing
session on Thursday 19th October at Homerton Psychiatric Ward. Meet at Core Arts at 11am sharp. |
